Wailua - Smith's Tropical Paradise Park
This beautiful garden is reached by turning left before the bridge over Waialua River and following a narrow path along the river's edge. Its 30 acres/12ha (which can also be viewed from a small train) are divided into various sections including an orchid garden, a Japanese garden and primeval forest vegetation. Various events take place here (musical, hula dancing and torch ceremonies).

Fern Grotto
Wailua's greatest attraction is Fern Grotto, which extends along the 3 miles/5km river to its source and can be reached by boat. Boats depart from Waialua Marina.
The grotto is an enormous amphitheatre made of rock in which, thanks to the constantly-damp atmosphere, conditions are ideal for bracken to grow. It is also a popular place for weddings - they take place here almost daily. The boat's crew sing a Hawaiian wedding song for tourists while a commentary is given over a megaphone.
