The Carrie B allows visitors to explore the world's largest natural harbor, see the nation's first naval shipyard, and cruise the site of the battle between the Monitor and the Merrimac aboard a replica of a 19th-century Mississippi riverboat.

The Children's Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth provides a great outing for the family. With over 90 interactive displays and exhibits that will keep the youngsters entertained for hours. The museum also has a planetarium on site.

The Olde Towne Trolley Tour in Portsmouth provides an excellent way to get an understanding of the history of the city. The tour passes by many historical buildings and a guide delivers an informative narrative. The tours leave several times a day, be sure to confirm the schedule.

The Lightship Museum located in Portsmouth allows visitors to board the ship and see all the workings above and below decks. The Lightship Portsmouth was originally a floating lighthouse and would be moored near particularly nasty shoals to warn navigators of the danger lurking beneath the waves.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum explores the long and eventful history of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The museum examines a variety of periods dating back more than 250 years and displays ship models and military items, including uniforms and weapons.

The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in Portsmouth pays tribute to Virginia's famous sports figures. In addition to the history and memorabilia, the facility also has an activities area for children.
