Lorton Attractions

Early records indicate that Captain John Smith may have been the first Englishman to venture into the Lorton area. He went up the Potomac River about 1608 where he visited a nearby chieftain's village belonging to the Tauxenent Indians. George Mason IV of Gunston Hall is the most remembered Lorton resident, he wrote what became the American Bill of Rights.
