On a tongue of land between the York and James Rivers is Hampton, founded in 1610 - the oldest British foundation in the United States that has remained continuously occupied. Features of particular interest are the Virginia Air and Space Center (aircraft, Apollo 12 capsule), St John's Church (1728; liturgical vessels of 1618) and Fort Monroe (where Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederation, was confined after the Civil War), with the Casemate Museum, in which the first naval battle between steam-powered armourclads (the Northern "Monitor" and the Southern "Virginia", formerly the "Merrimac"), fought during the Civil War in Hampton Roads, between Hampton and Norfolk, is fully documented.
Bluebird Gap Farm located in Hampton is a working farm. Here visitors can experience farm life first hand. On site are barnyard animals, a playground, picnic areas and a petting zoo. The Bluebird Gap Farm hosts a festival each year called Country Comebacks.

The Hampton University Museum features a permanent collection as well as changing exhibits in the extensively renovated Huntingdon Building. The museum focuses on world cultures with displays that include African Art, African American Art, Asian and Pacific Islands collections, in addition to local content related to the history of Hampton and Virginia.

Hampton University welcomes over 5,700 students annually. This is a private university, known historically for being a black university, located along the waterfront in a very scenic area of Virginia.
The Little England Chapel located in Hampton is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The chapel was here that Sunday school lessons were taught to African Americans from the 1880's to the 20th Century. The Little England Chapel was built in the late 17th Century and was also known as the Ocean Cottage Sunday School.
Board Miss Hampton II to enjoy a tour of the Hampton Roads Harbor. Visitors will see Fort Wool and the warships at the Norfolk Naval Base. The harbor tours are both scenic and interesting, and a great way to spend a couple of hours while visiting Hampton.

St John's Episcopal Church in Hampton is a 1728 colonial church. The parish was founded in 1610 and claims to be the oldest English-speaking parish in the United States. Some of the graves in the adjoining graveyard predate the building of the church.

The Virginia Air and Space Center located in Hampton shows visitors the history of NASA. The center is housed in a spectacular glass enclosed building and has a multitude of interesting and interactive displays.
