Great Falls was of great interest to early colonists, it was a natural impediment of trade so the Patowmack Company was formed in 1784 to construct a series of five canals to make the river navigable.
The Colvin Run Mill Historic Site in Great Falls provides visitors with the experience of a working mill. The groans, rumbles, and shakes can be felt throughout the building as the mill grinds grain. The mill also hosts a variety of educational events throughout the year for young and old. The site consists of four buildings on 36 acres.
Great Falls Park is located 15 miles from Washington, DC. The park contains a stunning sight.
