Virginia Beach - Old Cape Henry Lighthouse
The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse in Virginia Beach played an important role in the navigational safety of the United States. Built in 1791, the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse opened up the Chesapeake Bay area to safe navigation. Note that to access the lighthouse visitors must first pass through the Fort Story Military Base.

The New Lighthouse in Virginia Beach is actually quite an old structure. Built in 1881 just 350 feet from the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, the New Lighthouse is still in operation today. Note that to access the lighthouses visitors must first pass through security at the Fort Story Military Base.
