Description
(Local Name: Technisches Museum für Industrie und Gewerbe) Emperor Franz Joseph laid the foundation stone of the new three story museum in 1908, but it did not open until 1918, after his death. The Imperial "physical collection" evolved into an "industrial collection", which itself later became a "production collection". Finally this gave rise to the Technical Museum together with the Railroad and Postal/Telegraph Museum. The collections provide a cross-section of the development of technology, commerce and industry with special reference to the contribution made by Austria.
