(Local Name: Alte Schmiede) The Alte Schmiede (Old Smithy) at No. 11 Schönlaterngasse was, until 1974, the workshop of Meister Schmirler who created the present "Schöne Laterne" and gave it to the city of Vienna. His workshop is open to visitors; in addition, it serves as a cultural center with an art gallery, cafe and a literary rendezvous where readings and lectures are given.
