Vienna - Heiligenkreuzerhof

The present Heiligenkreuzerhof complex in Vienna, consisting of the abbey church, the prelacy, the counting house and the courtyard, lies in the historic quarter between Schönlaterngasse and Grasshofgasse. The Heiligenkreuzerhof was erected between 1659 and 1676 at the behest of the Abbots of the Monastery of Heiligenkreuz. Considerable alterations were made in 1746 when the complex took on the appearance it has at present.

Must-see attractions nearby:
The counting house was not built until 1754. The Baroque painter Martino Altomonte lived here in the monastery until his death in 1745. He spent his declining years here and painted the picture above the High Altar in the Bernard Chapel near the prelacy in 1730. The wonderful Baroque room is used for weddings.
