Most of the 100,000 papyri come from Egypt and date from the 15th century B.C. to the 14th century A.D. The most precious possessions are three Egyptian Books of the Dead (the oldest dating from the 15th C. B.C.) and one of the oldest Greek papyri (fourth C. B.C.).
