Veurne - Town Hall Stadhuis

The Stadhuis (town hall) in the northwest corner of the square built by Liéviun Lucas between 1596 and 1612 is, with its twin gabled facade and elegant loggia of bluish stone, an excellent example of the style of the Flemish Renaissance. Above the roof rises the narrow stepped tower erected in 1599. The rooms of the town hall have largely kept their form and furnishings of the 17th and 18th C.

The council chamber on the ground floor is particularly fine and impressive with its leather wall hangings from Mechelen as is the jury room with its linings of blue satin from Utrecht.

Must-see attractions nearby:
On the upper floor can be seen the reception hall with leather wall hangings from Córdoba in Andalusia - here King Albert I had his office in 1914 - and the lawcourt with a painting by de Vriendt, as well as the marriage room, again with leather hangings from Mechelen and a still life by de Vos.
