Vergennes Attractions
Vergennes (pop. 2,600) is one of the oldest incorporated cities in the United States. It covers and area of one square mile on Otter Creek near Lake Champlain. The 1897 Vergennes Opera House and the Bixby Memorial Library are worth visiting.
Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is located on Basin Harbor in Vergennes. Exhibits include antique boats, shipwreck displays, a working blacksmith shop and nautical archeology. The Maritime Museum collection contains 15,000 objects, images and documents highlighting the history of Lake Champlain.
