The Bennington Battle Monument commemorates a battle during the War of Independence. Other features of interest are a number of handsome 18th c. buildings and the Bennington Museum.
Bennington (pop. 16,000) is located in the foothills of the Green Mountains in the southwest corner of Vermont. The town features three covered bridges and a number of historic landmarks, including the Old First Church and Robert Frost gravesite.
The Bennington Battle Monument commemorates the Revolutionary War Battle of Bennington when American Brigadier General John Stark beat British General John Burgoyne's invading army in 1777. The monument is 306 feet high and offers views of three states from the upper lookout. The structure was completed in 1891, at which time it was the highest battle monument in the world.
The Bennington Museum features a large collection of works by folk artist Grandma Moses, as well as the Grandma Moses Schoolhouse where she attended school as a child.
The museum also has a large collection of military history related artifacts, tools, dolls, toys, pottery, glass, furniture, and art.

The Old Buying Ground is adjacent to the Old First Church in Bennington and contains the graves of the poet Robert Frost, as well as the founders of Bennington and five Vermont governors.
The Old First Church in Bennington is a restored church which was built in 1805. It is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Vermont. It is also one of the oldest church organizations in the state.
Major renovations were completed from 1994 to 1999.

The Stratton Mountain Ski Resort offers over 2,000 vertical feet of ski terrain, along with 14 lifts and 90 trails. The majority of runs are for beginners and intermediates.
In summer visitors can use the 27-hole golf course and a tennis club.
