Venice - Santi Apostoli

Santi Apostoli, a 14th century church (reconstructed in the 18th century) is really only of interest because of the superb Corner family chapel (on the right of the nave), attributed to Mauro Coducci in the late 15th century. It is one of the finest examples of Venetian Renaissance architecture, originally intended as the burial-place of the Queen of Cyprus. The richly carved columns and the delicate cupola achieve an astonishing harmony.

Giambattista Tiepolo's altar-piece, "The Communion of St Lucy" (1746-48) is radiantly beautiful.
