Description
Opposite the rail station stands the Church of San Simeone Piccolo, its dome covered in a green patina. The church was built in 1718-38 by Giovanni Scalfurotto on the site of the medieval church of SS Simeone e Guida. The Late Baroque architecture is modeled on the Pantheon in Rome, but also has Classical Renaissance features. A broad flight of steps leads up to the Palladian pillared portico which gives access to the actual church. Inside can be seen a "Pieta" by J. Palma Giovane.
