San Sebastiano, Venice

The Renaissance Church of San Sebastiano was built between 1505 and 1546. This is where Paolo Veronese who decorated the interior almost single-handed is buried (on the left of the choir). Numbered among his most important works is "The Coronation of the Virgin" and on the ceiling in the Sacristy are the four panels of the Evangelists which made his reputation (entrance under the organ). On the ceiling of the nave are his scenes from the Life of Esther: "Esther taken before Ahasuerus", Esther crowned Queen", "The Triumph of Mordecai". The splendid frames of the ceiling-paintings are also interesting.
