Uttaradit
Uttaradit, about 450 km (280 mi.) north of Bangkok in the wide valley of the Menam Nan was rebuilt following the fire in 1967 that almost completely destroyed the old town. Since a huge reservoir was constructed 45 km (28 mi.) to the north-east
of the town, the Pa Som barrage (also called the Sirikit dam after the queen), the economy of Uttaradit has flourished particularly owing to agriculture.
By car: from Phitsanulok highways 12/11/1045 (130 km (81 mi.)). From Sukhothai Highway 101 to Si Satchanalai then 102 (105 km (65 mi.)).
By rail: station on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai line (from Bangkok- Hualampong, 485 km (301 mi.), duration about 8 hours).
