Utah County

Utah County has the second-highest population of the 29 counties in Utah. It was named for the Spanish name of the Ute Indians. The county contains the city of Provo which is the county seat.

Camp Floyd (Stagecoach Inn State Park)

Camp Floyd and the Stagecoach Inn State Park combine two historic sites. A cemetery and commissary building are all that remain of Camp Floyd which was an old military post that once consisted of 400 buildings. From 1858 to 1861 there were 3,500 troops stationed at Camp Floyd to suppress a Mormon rebellion that never happened.
The restored two-story Stagecoach Inn is located close by. It was a stop on the Pony Express route.

American Fork, Utah

American Fork (pop. 22,000) is located below Mount Timpanogos in Utah County. The town was settled by Mormon pioneers who were on their way to Fort Provo in the summer of 1850. The town gets its name from one of the streams that run into Lake Utah.

Timpanogos Cave National Monument

25mi/40km south of Salt Lake City, on the northern slopes of Mount Timpanogos (11,750ft/3,581m), are three limestone caves linked by underground passages, with marvelous crystal and stalactitic formations.
The first cave was discovered in 1887 by Martin Hansen, a Mormon settler from American Fork. Timpanogos Cave was discovered in 1915 and the Middle Cave was found in 1921.

Daughters of The Utah Pioneers Museum

The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum in American Fork has furniture, clothing and other artifacts from settlers of the area. The museum features cabins from Fort Utah with their original furniture and historic artifacts.
Daughters of Utah Pioneers was founded in 1901.

Sundance Village, Utah

To the north of Provo is the Sundance Ski Area, which has become increasingly popular in recent years.
Located at the base of Mount Timpanogos, Sundance was established by Robert Redford in 1969. It offers skiing and amazing natural scenery.

Sundance Institute

The Sundance Institute was established in 1981 by Robert Redford to support independent filmmaking. There are special events throughout the year and various programs available, the most famous event is the Sundance Film Festival in January, attended by over 10,000 people.

Sundance Amphitheatre

A natural outdoor amphitheater in Sundance is used as a venue for the Sundance Summer Theatre and Sundance Children's Theatre.

Sundance Ski Area

The Sundance Ski Area has 41 trails and a vertical drop of 2,150ft/655m on Mount Timpanogos. There are 450 acres of skiing terrain.

Cedar Hills, Utah

Cedar Hills (pop. 7,800) is small town located on the edge of the Uinta National Forest northeast of American Fork. It is the fastest growing town in Utah. The population was 700 in 1990.

Spanish Fork, Utah

Spanish Fork (pop. 23,000) is a fast-growing town located in central Utah. It was settled by the Mormons in 1850 and is named for a fork in the river leading to Utah Lake.

Springville, Utah

Springville (pop. 21,500) is a fast-growing town located a bit south of Provo in Utah County. It was settled in 1850 by eight pioneer families and originally called Hobble Creek.

Springville Fish Hatchery

The Springville Fish Hatchery is the oldest hatchery in Utah and specializes in rainbow trout which are used to stock lakes, ponds and streams along the Wasatch Front.
It features displays for visitors.

Springville Museum Of Art

The Springville Museum of Art is the oldest art museum in Utah. It is housed in a Spanish Colonial Revival building from 1937. The museum features more than 1,500 works of Utah and American art.

Alpine, Utah

Alpine (pop. 7,900) is a small town in Utah County located north of Highland and American Fork. The town is named for the Swiss Alps.

Alpine Art Center

The Alpine Art Center has a 10 acre Sculpture Park within a garden and a gallery of national and local artists work. The grounds feature shady paths and wild flower gardens.

Historic Pioneer Relic Hall

The Historic Pioneer Relic Hall is a heritage museum in Alpine. It features displays on the history of the area and the early pioneers.
Tours are conducted by tour guides from each of Alpine's four Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) Camps.

John Rowe Moyle House and Moyle Historical Park

The John Rowe Moyle House and Moyle Historical Park in Alpine includes the 1866 fort, a tower, a granary, a farm equipment display and a restored home. The house was built in the 1800s by John Moyle.

Highland

The small town of Highland (pop. 12,300) is just west of the Uinta National Forest on Highway 92 south of Salt Lake City.

Lehi, Utah

The fast-growing town of Lehi (pop. 32,000) is located in Utah County in north central Utah. It is named after the Mormon prophet Lehi.

John Hutchings Museum of Natural History

The John Hutchings Museum of Natural History in Lehi was established in 1955. It features a wide variety of exhibits, including minerals, fossils, tropical fish, Fremont Indian and pioneer artifacts.

Thanksgiving Point

Thanksgiving Point is an outdoor recreation center located in Lehi. It features nature programs, gardens and other outdoor activities. It was established by Alan and Karen Ashton, the creators of WordPerfect.

Museum of Ancient Life

The Museum of Ancient Life is located at Thanksgiving Point south of Salt Lake City on Interstate 15 in Central Utah. The museum contains dinosaur skeletons, paleontology exhibits, fossils and large screen theatre.

Mapleton, Utah

SCERA Heritage Center

The SCERA Heritage Center has exhibits on the founding and history of Orem, as well as pioneer and Indian artifacts. SCERA was founded in 1933 and is an abbreviation for Sharon's Cultural, Educational, Recreation Association.

Utah Valley State College

The Utah Valley State College in Orem was established in 1941. It primarily serves the state's students.

McKay Events Center

The David McKay Events Center at Utah Valley State College in Orem has 8,500 seats and is the home of the Utah Catzz of the Professional Indoor Football League.
