San Rafael Swell

The San Rafael Swell south of Castle Dale was once a hideout of Butch Cassidy, with deep canyons and stone pinnacles. It takes in about 600,000 acres. The area offers excellent hiking in the spring and fall.

Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry
On the north rim of the San Rafael Swell is the Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. It is one of the world's best sources of dinosaur fossils. The site was discovered in the 1880's by area ranchers. There are more than 12,000 dinosaur bones on display, including more than 30 complete skeletons.
