The town of Green River (pop. 970) is located in Grand County on the river of the same name. The town is known for its melon crop, celebrated during Melon Days in mid-September.
The Black Dragon Canyon is located near Green River. The easy hike features pictographs left by ancient Fremont Indians, who inhabited Emery County from about 500 to 1300 AD.
The cold-water Crystal Geyser is located 1.3mi/2.0km southeast of Green River. It erupts on its own schedule about two times a day and sometimes as high as 100 feet.
The John Wesley Powell River History Museum has a River Runner's Hall Of Fame honoring the daredevils who explored the rivers of the southwest in the late 1800s. It is located on the banks of the Green River.
