Escalante Attractions
Escalante (pop. 820) is one of the main towns in Garfield County. The town is located on State Route 12 next to the Grand Staircase National Monument.
Originally settled in 1875, Escalante is referred to by its residents as Escalant. It was named after Spanish explorer and priest Francisco Silvestre de Escalante, who traveled in the region.

Escalante Petrified Forest State Park
Escalante Petrified Forest State Park is located 44m/71km east of Bryce Canyon National Park. It features nature trails through petrified forests where fossil remains of dinosaurs and mineralized wood can be seen.

The Wide Hollow Reservoir is part of the Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. It is a freshwater lake with boating, swimming and fishing.
