The Box Death Hollow Wilderness is part of the Escalante Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest. The Box and Death Hollow are canyons carved by tributaries of the Escalante River. Mule deer, elk, cougars and bald eagles are some of the wildlife in the area.
Tips: No developed trails in the wilderness area. Most hikers follow the creeks.
The Hell's Backbone Road is an unpaved route through the Escalante Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest. Highlights of the route include spectacular views of the Box-Death Hollow Wilderness and the Hell's Backbone Bridge which was built in 1933.
Posey Lake is located at 8,200ft/2,500m in the Escalante Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest, west of the Box-Death Hollow Wilderness. There is a campground near the lake.
Powell Point is located near Pine Lake in the Escalante Ranger District of Dixie National Forest. From the top it is possible to see into three different states. The 4mi/6.4km mountain bike trail leads to the summit at 10,000ft/3,048m with spectacular views of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
