Carbon County is located in the Castle Country travel region. The county is named for the abundance of coal in the region. It ranks twelfth in population among Utah's 29 counties, with 21,643 residents.

Helper, Utah
Helper (pop. 2,000) is the second-largest town in Carbon County. It was settled in 1870 and became known as the town of "57 varieties" for the ethnic diversity of laborers brought in to work in the mines. It is located 7mi/11km northwest of Price.
Helper - Western Mining and Railroad Museum
The Western Mining and Railroad Museum is located in the town of Helper which was founded by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. The museum features indoor and outdoor displays, including a 1917 railroad caboose.
