On the banks of the Fremont River in Capitol Reef National Park is the settlement of Fruita, founded by Mormon pioneers in the 1880's. The settlers depended upon fruit growing andf farming.
The visitor center is open daily, and several of the buildings have been preserved, including an old log schoolhouse. There is self serve fruit picking
