Bonneville Salt Flats Description
The Bonneville Salt Flats are a barren and flat region covering 159sqmi/143sqkm. The flats are under the administration of the Bureau of Land Management. Covering 30,000 acres, the area is popular with high speed auto racers who have set numerous land speed records there. The Bonneville Salt Flats are remnants of the ancient Lake Bonneville which covered a third of Utah during the ice age. The salt is as much as six feet deep in places.
