American Fork (pop. 22,000) is located below Mount Timpanogos in Utah County. The town was settled by Mormon pioneers who were on their way to Fort Provo in the summer of 1850. The town gets its name from one of the streams that run into Lake Utah.
25mi/40km south of Salt Lake City, on the northern slopes of Mount Timpanogos (11,750ft/3,581m), are three limestone caves linked by underground passages, with marvelous crystal and stalactitic formations.
