Ortles Group

Between the Valtellina, the Val Venosta and the upper Noce valley (Val di Sole and Val di Non) extends the Ortles (Ortler) group, a range of mainly crystalline rocks but with its highest peaks, Ortles (Ortler, 3,902m/12,877ft) and the majestic Gran Zebrù (Königsspitze, 3,859m/12,735ft), built up from Triassic limestones. On the north side of the range are the Solda (Sulden), Martello (Martell) and Ultimo (Ulten) valleys, on the west the Valfurva and on the south the Péio and Rabbi valleys, all much glaciated in the upper reaches.
