From Tzaneen R 71 runs southwest towards the Magoebaskloof, at first running parallel to the valley of the Magoebas River. In 18km/11mi a road goes off on the right to the Debegeni Falls, which plunge down 80m/260ft to form a small lake (bathing permitted). The main road then climbs to a pass (1,432m/4,698ft) with the Magoebaskloof Hotel. A few km/mi beyond this it runs past the Ebenezer Dam, a popular recreation area (boating, fishing). From here it is 5km/3mi to Haenertsburg, famed for its abundance of trout and its cherry-blossom festival in spring.
The forest country round the Magoebaskloof can be explored on various hiking trails (including walks taking several days, with overnight accommodation in huts).
