Ohakune Mountain Road 


The beautiful Ohakune Mountain Road winds its way up through the forests of the national park to the Mangawhero Falls and the Turoa skiing area on the western slopes of Mount Ruapehu. This involves climbing from 600m to 1600m.; at this height snow is present from June to October.
Walks From the park ranger station at the near end of the Ohakune Mountain Road there is a 3km circuit through the Mangawhero Forest.
It is a 2-hour walk to the imposing Waitonga Falls, one of the highest (63m) in Tongariro National Park.
