Utica - House of the Waterfall
The best preserved dwelling-house in Utica is the House of the Waterfall (Maison de la Cascade), named after the mosaic found here. The entrance, on the north side, leads by way of a small living room (oecus) into a colonnaded courtyard, in the center of which are a fountain with mosaic decoration and a (later) sundial. On the west side of the courtyard is a large triclinium (dining room) with a beautiful pavement mosaic. To the rear of the house are a "coach-house" and stables. On one side is a granary, apparently made out of an adjoining house. In this house was found a small hoard of coins: hence its name, the House of the Treasure (Maison du Trésor).
