Description
Construction on the Old Truckee Jail began on August 11, 1875 and the jail was ready for prisoners by September 22. This is one of the oldest jails in California and was used continuously until 1964. The building was restored in 1974 by the Truckee-Donner Historical Society with the intent of turning it into a museum.

The Old Truckee Jail exhibits a number of artifacts relating to local industry, including lumbering, ice harvesting, and soda bottling, and Truckee's early winter sports era. There is also displays on the 1920's film industry.

Behind the Old Jail Museum is the Community Memorial Garden dedicated to those who helped build the community of Truckee.
