Mt St Benedict - Pax Guest House
From the early days the monks of Mt St Benedict operated a guest house which still welcomes visitors today. It is the oldest guest house in Trinidad and Tobago, established in 1916. However, the emphasis has evolved to include those who want to take advantage of the many birding and hiking opportunities around the mountain which the monastery protects.
The top of the mountain has the greatest concentration of raptors on Trinidad. The balcony feeders of the guest house attract the mid-level forest birds, and lower trails attract a third collection. There is also an emphasis on helping guests recognize various colorful butterflies.
Rooms are simple, but decorated with antiques. Accommodation includes breakfast and dinner which is tasty, varied and includes local specialties. Pax is also noted for its afternoon teas served to non-residents.
