Isola San Domino

The most westerly and scenically most attractive of the three major islands is San Domino (up to 16m/53ft; area 2 sq.km/1.75 sq.mi), an island with large areas of pine-forest which was used as a place of exile until 1943 and is now becoming an increasingly popular tourist resort. The largest place on the island, San Domino, lies above the east coast. There are a number of interesting caves accessible only from the sea, such as the Grotta delle Viole and the Grotta del Bue Marino, both with a beautiful play of light.
