Selinunte - Meilichios Ritual Area
Opposite the northeast corner of the Demeter Temenos is the area used for the worship of Zeus Meilichios; the visitor will recognize the remains of two altars and a small temple which was built in 300 B.C. and measures only 2.97m/9ft by 5.20m/17ft. Nearby were more than 10,000 small steles (burial pillars) showing the heads of Zeus Meilichios and a goddess related to him and which were brought here as votive offerings; they are today in the Archeological Museum in Palermo.
