Selinunte - Demeter Temenos
The Demeter Temenos is an irregular rectangle on the slope above the river. It is entered through a fifth century B.C. propylaea in the east. In the adjoining courtyard will be found a small Archaic altar and a large square sacrificial altar, which formed part of the Temple of Demeter built in the sixth century B.C. on the site of an even older sanctuary near a stream.
