Tournai - Saint-Brice

From the Grand'Place it is downhill and across the Scheldt straight along to the Church of Saint-Brice. Building of this church went on from the 12th C. into the 18th C. and in 1940 it was burned down. It was one of the first three-aisled hall churches in the west of the territory of present-day Belgium. In the Chapel of the Sacrament hangs a picture by de Crayer, and the crypt still remains of the original building.

Must-see attractions nearby:
When excavations were being made for houses Nos. 7 and 8 in Place Clovis, which lies around the church, the grave of the Frankish king Childerich was discovered and the burial gifts were taken to Paris.
