Northwest of the Grand'Place behind the Church of Saint-Quentin can be found the former pawnbroker's shop (Mont de Pitié) built by Coebergher in 1622. It now contains the historical museum which until 1940 was housed in the cloth hall. It illustrates the history of the town with numerous exhibits from churches and other buildings which were saved from destruction in 1940.
Of exceptional merit are a great collection of porcelain from the Tournai manufactory and fine pieces of local carpet weaving.
On the upper floor is the Musée de Paléontologie et de Préhistoire where prehistoric finds especially from the quarries round about Tournai can be seen.
