West Central Iceland Attractions

West central Iceland extends from Reykjavík north to the Kolfingsnes peninsula. The area is rich historically being the setting of many Icelandic sagas and the home of Eiríkur rauði (Eric the Red) and the birth place of his son Leifur Eiríksson.

The area has its share of unusual natural features such as caves and craters and geo-thermal waters.

Bird-filled fjords are enjoyed. The area endures frequent ocean-borne storms and sunny days are a rarity.
