Tupelo Tourist Attractions

Tupelo's most famous son was Elvis Presley, and his birthplace is its great tourist attraction. 23 mi. from the little town is Brice's Crossroads, where a Confederate army defeated a larger Union force in 1864.
Tupelo (pop. 34,000) is the county seat of Lee County, Mississippi.

Elvis Presley Birthplace

This small white house in Tupelo is where Elvis Presley was born, Jan. 8, 1935. A small museum displays Elvis memorabilia.

Tupelo National Battlefield

The Tupelo National Battlefield marks the site of the Battle of Tupelo, considered the last major battle of the Civil War in Mississippi.

Aberdeen

Aberdeen (pop. 6,400) is the county seat of Monroe County, Mississippi. The town maintains a large number of historic homes and buildings with over 50 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Lenoir Plantation, Prewett Place, Shadowlawn, Sunset Hill and Victoria are all historic homes built in the mid 1800s.

The Magnolias

Surrounded by massive magnolia trees, The Magnolias is a Greek Revival home that was built in 1850. Period furnishings fill the home and the original mahogany staircase is still featured.

Columbus

Columbus (pop. 26,000) is located on the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway and offers boating and fishing opportunities. It is the home of the first university for women in the United States, the Mississippi University for Women, founded here in 1884. Playwright Tennessee Williams had a home in Columbus which now stands as the Welcome Center for Columbus.

Waverley Mansion, West Point

The Waverley Mansion east of West Point was built in 1852. This antebellum mansion features four self-supporting curved stairways. Some of the original furnishings are on display.

Corinth

Corinth (pop. 14,000) was an important area during the Civil War and was occupied by both Union and Confederate troops. The Battle of Corinth took place here in 1862. The Corinth National Cemetery contains more than 5,600 graves of soldiers.
The city is also known for its historic buildings.

Verandah Curlee House

Verandah House is a Greek Revival mansion that was built in 1857. The house features 16-foot ceilings, plaster moldings, and a rear addition including the back porch.

The Civil War Interpretive Center in Corinth offers information on the Civil War and its effects on the Corinth area.

Northeast Mississippi Museum

The Northeast Mississippi Museum in Corinth offers displays focusing primarily on the Civil War and the Chickasaw Indians.

Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield Site

Gen. Nathan B. Forrest led Confederate cavalry in battle, at the Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield Site on June 10, 1864. This battle was a victory for the Confederate army.

Choctaw - Geyser Falls Water Park

Geyser Falls Water Park has a lazy river, wave pool, speed and tube slides. Clearwater Key within Geyser Falls offers a white sand beach and The Beach Club features a heated pool and beach volleyball.

Amory Regional Museum, Amory

The Amory Regional Museum is housed in the town's first hospital. It displays antique furniture, American Indian artifacts, and a railroad passenger car.
