Tiverton Tourist Attractions

Tiverton (pop. 16,539) is located 48mi/77km northeast of Plymouth at the confluence of the Exe and Lowman. The area was established in the 7th century by the Anglo-Saxons.

Dulverton, England

Dulverton is a small village with narrow lanes, a variety of shops and cobbled alleys. The Guildhall Centre has numerous exhibitions throughout the year, while the Exmoor House, next to the River Barle houses the headquarters of the National Park Authority and the Dulverton Art Gallery.

Dunster, England

Dunster is located just inside the Exmoor National Park. The town hosts a variety of events and has a number of shops and boutiques featuring a variety of local artists. Dunster is also home to 200 historically listed buildings that have been well preserved.

Dunster Castle

Dunster Castle is located just inside the Exmoor National Park. It is a formidable structure that has been inhabited for over 1000 years. It is situated at the top of a wooded hill, on a large estate with several other buildings. The Castle is a National Trust property that was built by Mohun, the Earl of Somerset, around 1070. It was remodelled in the 17th C and retains its 17th C plasterwork ceilings and oak staircase.

Dunster Working Watermill

Dunster Working Watermill is a National Trust property located near Minehead. The restored 18th C mill is situated on the River Avill in the grounds of the castle. The original mill site dates back, at least, to the 11th C.

Dunster Dolls Museum

The Dunster Dolls Museum has over 7000 dolls from different periods and countries in its collection.

Tiverton Castle

Tiverton Castle is managed by the Historic Houses Association. The castle was originally built in 1106 and then rebuilt in the 13th and 14th centuries. The architecture of Tiverton Castle ranges from Medieval to Modern. The walled gardens are especially beautiful.

Exford, England

Exford is a village with a stag hunting center which is considered to be the best in Exmoor. It is the base for the Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds, they have been in operation since 1875.

Knightshayes Court

Knightshayes Court is a National Trust property located in Bolham. It was designed by Willian Burges and construction began in 1869. Behind the red sandstone mansion is a spectacular woodland garden with many walks leading around the grounds.
