Tacna Attractions

Once part of Chile, Tacna is the southern most city in Peru. From Tacna it is only 36km / 22mi to the Chilean border. Despite its proximity to Chile, or perhaps because of it, Tacna is a very patriotic city. Each year the town celebrates August 28th, the date on which, in 1929, Tacna became part of Peru. This is marked with the Procesión de la Bandera and a week of celebration with fairs, music, dancing and other entertainment.

This prosperous little city, capital of the Tacna region, is home to some of the best schools and hospitals in the country.
