St George, UT Tourist Attractions

In the southwest corner of the state is St George, where Brigham Young spent the winter. Some 17,000 tons of sandstone were used in the Mormon Temple here, and timber had to be brought from 80 miles away. St George owes its popular name of Dixie to the cotton grown in the area.
St George (pop. 64,000) is the largest town and county seat of Washington County.

Rosenbruch World Wildlife Museum

Visitors to the Rosenbruch World Wildlife Museum in St George are taken on a quarter mile of mountain pathway that winds its way through the plains of Africa, the forests of North America, and the mountains of Asia. More than 200 species of wildlife from around the world can be viewed in their natural habitat.

Sand Hollow Aquatic Center

The Sand Hollow Aquatic Center in St George features diving, competition and leisure pools.

Tabernacle

The St George Tabernacle took 13 years to build, and includes a clock tower with a clock built in London. It seats 1,200.

Mormon Temple

The first Mormon temple constructed west of the Mississippi River is in St George. It is located on a six acre site and was completed and dedicated in 1877.

Jailhouse

The one-room jailhouse in St George was built sometime around 1880 out of black lava rock. The original bars are still intact.

Family History Center

The Family History Center in St George features a genealogical library where visitors can trace their local ancestry and family history.

Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum

The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum in St George features artifacts from the settlement of the area. It is located in the McQuarrie Memorial Building.

St George Art Museum

The St George Art Museum features a permanent art collection as well as several special exhibitions throughout the year. The permanent collection includes National Park art, and art related to Utah and the West. The St. George Art Museum is located in the beautiful Pioneer Center for the Arts complex in Historic Downtown St. George.

Sunbrook Golf Course

Sunbrook is one of the best golf courses in the state of Utah. The club features an 18 and a 9 hole champion course.

Old Washington County Courthouse

The Old Washington County Courthouse in St George was built between 1866 and 1876. The brick and mortar structure has also been used as a schoolhouse and jail.

Larkspur Park

The Larkspur Park in St George has a playground, tennis courts and volleyball courts.

Fiesta Fun Family Fun Center

The Fiesta Fun Family Fun Center in St George is an amusement park with batting cages, a mini golf course, a driving range, go-karts and a video arcade.

Dixie College

Dixie College in St George opened in 1911 and was originally called the St George Stake Academy. The college features a Science building, the Browning Learning Resources Center, and the Avenna Center which has a sports arena, a fine arts center, a fitness center, and a convention center.

Val A Browning Library

The Val A Browning Library is part of the Dixie College in St George. The library was doubled in size to 40,000 square feet with a major renovation in 1994.

Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm

The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site museum is built over a world class trackway site and houses recently discovered Early Jurassic dinosaur tracks, fossil fish and plants, rare dinosaur remains, invertebrate traces, and sedimentary structures. It has been called "the most significant dinosaur tracksite in western North America" and gives a glimpse of an ancient ecosystem along the shores of a prehistoric lake that helped create the conditions that preserved these unique fossils.

Brigham Young Winter Home

Brigham Young spent several winters in this home in St George between the years 1871 and 1877. His winter home has been restored and can be viewed on guided tours with St George Temple missionaries.

Bloomington Park

Bloomington Park in St George has volleyball courts, baseball and soccer fields.

Bloomington Hills Park

Bloomington Hills Park on Redwood Tree Drive in St George has a basketball court, pavilion, playground and barbecue area.
