South Georgia Island Attractions

South Georgia Island is a UK overseas territory. Located 1390km/862mi east of the Falkland Islands, it is a land of snow covered mountains and glaciers. There are no permanent residents but the island does maintain two British Antarctic Research Stations, a museum with two curators, and a Marine Officer.

The island's main attractions are its natural beauty and bountiful wildlife. Two million fur seals lay claim to the island each summer and half of the world's population of southern elephant seals breed here. Millions of penguins inhabit the island and approximately 250,000 albatross return here each year. The island is also home to numerous reindeer.
