Rockland, ME Tourist Attractions

Known as "The Lobster Capital of the World" and the "Schooner Capital of Maine," Rockland (pop. 7,600) is one of Maine's major fishing ports. The town features an historic district with shops and boutiques.

Farnsworth Art Museum

The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland features American and European art with an emphasis on Maine's role in American art. Changing exhibits are also featured regularly.

The Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland features a collection of lighthouse, lifesaving artifacts and lenses.

Camden

Thanks to its spectacular situation on the south side of Penobscot Bay, framed by high hills, the little town of Camden is a popular holiday resort, with excellent sport and leisure facilities.
Camden (pop. 5,300) is located in Knox County.

Old Conway House and Museum

The Old Conway House in Camden was built in the 1770s. Antique furniture and farm equipment reflect the time period.
Also on the property are a blacksmith shop, a Maple Sugar House, and the Mary Meeker Cramer Museum with a collection which includes ship models and sailing items, weapons, clothing, and other artifacts related to the local history.

Vinalhaven Historical Society Museum, Vinalhaven Island

The Vinalhaven Historical Society Museum features displays on the history of the fishing industries and the granite quarrying days, Civil War, Vinalhaven schools, homes, and farms.

Maine Watercraft Museum, Thomaston

The Maine Watercraft Museum in Thomaston presents antique and classic smallcraft displayed in the water. The collection is representational of the smallcraft boat-building industry in the area.

Montpelier-The General Henry Knox Museum

The General Henry Knox Museum is located in a house that is a replica of the home of the first US secretary of war, General Henry Knox. The house is decorate in period and features a double flying staircase. Some of Knox's personal items are also on display.

Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockport

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport features the work of Maine artists with changing exhibits and a focus on contemporary art.

Rockport Marine Park

The Marine Park in Rockport features a statue of Andre, the harbor seal who spent summers in the town and was the inspiration for the children's books "A Seal Called Andre" and the film "Andre". There are also three restored lime kilns, as well as a replica of a lime transporting locomotive.

Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum, Port Clyde

The Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum is located in the 1895 keepers house. The Marshall Point Lighthouse itself dates to 1857. The museum features artifacts related to the history of the area.

Owls Head Transportation Museum, Owls Head

The Owls Head Transportation Museum features a wide range of transportation equipment including auto, motorcycles, aircraft, engines, bicycles, and other vehicles. Demonstrations of some of the vehicles are given on special occasions.

Olson House, Cushing

The Olson House was the house of Christina and Alvaro Olson, made famous by Andrew Wyeth in his work entitled Christina's World. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
