Riviera around Genova Attractions

General information

The Riviera ("coast") is the narrow coastal strip which extends along the Mediterranean from Marseilles to La Spezia. The Italian Riviera, between Ventimiglia and La Spezia, is one of the most beautiful scenic stretches in Italy, with precipitous cliffs, forested hills, old-world little port towns and ruined watch-towers standing above the brilliant blue sea. The hills shelter it from the rough north winds, and with its southern exposure it benefits to the full from the power of the sun and the warmth of the sea. Mild winters and warm summers promote the growth of luxuriant southern vegetation. During winter and spring many visitors seek relaxation in the resorts, to which even larger numbers come in summer for sea-bathing.
