Riverside is the capital of the county of the same name, and is to be found southeast of Los Angeles on the CA 60 and 91 close to the U.S. 10. Established about 1870, it was initially a silkworm-breeding center, but within a few years had developed into an important agricultural area, concentrating mainly on growing navel oranges which had been cultivated by mutation in Brazil in 1873. Most navel oranges still come from here today, although Riverside has experienced rapid growth since 1950 and is now an important commercial and industrial town.
The California Citrus State Historic Park in Riverside is a 400 acre city park that features demonstration groves where fruit is still produced.

The Castle Amusement Park in Riverside is located on a 25 acre site and features rides, arcade games and four 18 hole championship miniature golf courses. The arcade has elaborate decorations, including crystal chandeliers used in the movie "The King and I". Also in the park are a miniature railroad and an early 20th century carousel from Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The Chinese Pavilion in Riverside's downtown historic district, is intended as a tribute to the Asians who helped build the railroads and the community.
The Jensen-Alvarado Historic Ranch and Museum is located on a 30 acre site in Riverside. It features displays of history from the 1880's, specifically the Jensen family.

The Jurapa Mountains Cultural Center in Riverside has displays of minerals and American Indian artifacts on its 104 acre site. This is not a park but an educational facility that teaches awareness and respect for the earth and its inhabitants, through our hands-on educational programs.

The Mission Inn is a National Historic Landmark in Riverside that covers an entire city block. Built between 1876 and 1931 by Frank Miller, the hotel features a museum showcasing his art collection.

Mount Rubidoux Memorial Park, at a height of 1,300ft/400m on the western edge of town, with the Serra Cross in honor of the founder of the mission, and the Tower of World Peace.
The Rancho Jurupa Park is a 350 acre park located on Crestmore Road off Mission Boulevard in Riverside. It has over 10 miles of hiking and horseback trails and a campground.
The Riverside Art Museum is housed in the city's 1929 YMCA building, designed by Julia Morgan the architect of the Hearst Castle. Exhibits feature diverse themes and a range of media techniques.

The Sherman Indian Museum has student records from 1892 to 1970s as well as memorabilia and yearbooks. Displays of Native American artifacts feature basketry, rugs, beadwork, pottery and dioramas.
The California Museum of Photography, which has been in existence for over 15 years, and is to be found in a new building in the Main Street Mall.
