The first settler arrived in 1842 and today, Pueblo is Colorado's major industrial center. Pueblo was the largest settlement in the region until a Ute massacre on Christmas Day, 1854.
Pueblo City Park features the city's zoo and an old carousel built in 1911 as well as bocce courts, skateboarding park, and fishing on Lake Joy and Horseshoe Lake.
The Colorado Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Pueblo is inscribed with the names of 621 Colorado men and women who were killed, taken prisoner, or went missing during the Vietnam War.
The El Pueblo Museum is located on the site of the El Pueblo Trading Post, built in 1842 near the Arkansas River. The museum showcases the city's history and the various cultural and ethnic groups in the region.

The Pueblo Fire Museum is the only remaining firehouse in Pueblo that was home to horse-drawn fire equipment, and one of two remaining with the famous brass pole still intact. Exhibits include leather buckets, fire alarm systems, photographs, as well as antique fire engines and hose carts. The firehouse was completed in 1881 and served until 1979.

The Historic Arkansas Riverwalk is an outdoor water attraction that restores the Arkansas River channel to its original location. Bike paths and pedestrian pathways lead visitors to Lake Pueblo. Along the river channel bronze and stone sculptures as well as ceramic murals are featured.

The Nature & Raptor Center of Pueblo is located on the banks of the Arkansas River. Recreational activities available include picnicking, wildlife viewing, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding, bicycling and nature walks.

The Pueblo County Historical Society Museum has a substantial collection that includes saddles and railroad artifacts. Other items include photographs from the early days of Pueblo, Indian pottery and Pueblo Dodgers baseball artifacts.

The Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum is a memorial to the B-24 training base that operated from 1942 to 1946, during the Second World War. There are more than 30 aircraft on display outside this museum dedicated to the specific aircraft and its aircrew members.
Located in Pueblo City Park, the Pueblo Zoo has more than 420 animals representing 140 different species from throughout the world. Pioneer Ranch includes an animal contact area for visitors to touch and feed domesticated animals.

The Raptor Center is home to many species of predatory birds including bald eagles, golden eagles, barn owls and falcons. It also provides rehabilitative care for injured birds of prey.
The Rosemount Museum in Pueblo is a Victorian mansion designed by New York architect Henry Hudson Holly and completed in 1893. The 37 rooms in Rosemount feature nearly all furnishings, accessories, decorative arts, paintings custom paneling and window treatments that are original to the home.

The Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center is a complex of three buildings housing art galleries, the Buell Children's Museum, a 500 seat theater, dance studios, a conference room, and gift shop. The Sangre de Cristo Arts Center offers a wide range of educational programs in visual arts, dance, theatre and music.
