How to get there

From Mexico City by rail about 5 hours; by bus about 2.5 hours; by car 126km/78mi on the MEX 150.

Puebla, the capital of the state of the same name, lies in a fertile high valley surrounded by mainly volcanic mountains such as Popocatépetl (5452 m (17,893 ft)), Iztaccíhuatl (5286 m (17,349 ft)) and La Malinche (4461 m (14,641 ft)).

History and colonial architecture characterise this old town which boasts sixty churches and has become famed for the manufacture and use of brightly-coloured tiles. During the last decade Puebla has developed into an important industrial centre, but has managed to retain the character of a town from the Colonial period.
