Oxford, MS Attractions

Oxford (pop. 14,000) was established in the late 1830s and named in an attempt to have the state university established here. The University of Mississippi known as "Ole Miss" was built in Oxford and opened in 1848.

William Faulkner used Oxford as the basis for the fictional town of Jefferson in some of his novels.

Grenada - Confederate Fort, Mississippi
The Confederate Fort near the Grenada Dam is an earthwork fort which was used to protect Grenada from Union troops led by Gen. U.S. Grant.
Holly Springs - Marshall County Historical Museum, Mississippi
The Marshall County Historical Museum in Holly Springs features displays on the history of Marshall County, including artifacts relating to the Civil War, antique furniture, tools, medical devices, and clothing. The collection is housed in the Mississippi Synodical College dormitory building which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Senatobia, Mississippi
Senatobia (pop. 6,700) is located in northern Mississippi. One of the attractions in the area is Arkabutla Lake which offers a number of recreational opportunities. Camping, swimming, and sailing are popular activities in the area.
