Ouarzazate is located where the roads between the Drâa, Dadès and Ziz valleys cross. It has two magnificent kasbahs: Taourirt and Aït Benhaddou. It also has a souk every Sunday that sells many items from food to craftwork.
Aït Benhaddaou is 30km/19mi from the town. This castle stands in the middle of a field of almond trees, so beautiful that it has often been used as a setting for films such as "Lawrence of Arabia". UNESCO has given it world heritage status.
The Ouarzazate souk is held on Sunday. The souk or market is a place for buying and selling.
The majority of the Moroccan population is rural and each tribe has a certain number of souks that are usually held out in the open country or in a reserved enclosure.
